Red Bird Mission has its origins in efforts began at Beverly in Bell County, Kentucky in 1921 by the mid-western based Evangelical Church. Church and school programs rapidly developed, followed by a hospital in 1928. Denominational mergers in 1946 and 1968 resulted in the Mission becoming a project of the United Methodist Church.
